Asus Netbook Info - Solid State Drive Vs Hard Disk Drive
Netbooks Comments OffAsus offers two different kinds of hard drives for you to choose from in their netbooks. Here is some Asus netbook info on the difference between solid state drives and hard disk drives.
Neither is necessarily better than another. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks.
Solid State Drives
A compact flash card is one example of such a drive. MP3 players and iPods use solid state drives. Why? Because they have no moving parts that could damage the data on the drive. These drives are really great for netbooks especially for those students or road warriors that use their Asus netbooks out in the field in varying conditions. If you are on the bus, you don’t have to worry about getting bumped since your data will be safe. No moving parts means that a bump has no opportunity to do any damage.
Hard Disk Drives
Another group of Asus netbooks use the traditional hard drives with the moving needle to read and write data. The advantage here is you can have a much larger drive in your netbook. The disadvantage here though is that if you are in a bumpy environment, you have to be careful not to bump or knock your netbook around to protect the data on your disk.
Which Should You Get?
With the aforementioned Asus netbook info on the different drive types you can get, you need to ask yourself under what conditions will you be using your netbook.
If you are using your netbook to work outside the office in a stable environment like coffee shops, libraries, the beach, then an Asus netbook with a hard disk drive will suit. You will be able to carry along more data and your data will be okay because you aren’t going to be exposing it to bumpy and crazy environments.
If you are planning on using your netbook out in the field where bumps and knocks can come on suddenly like if you are a photographer or journalist in a fast paced environment, then the solid state drive will most likely suit you better. It will provide more protection for your data while you work, with the disadvantage being somewhat less storage space. But if you have a Wi-Fi connection, you can always upload your data to your server and free up space on your netbook until you get back to your main office.
